2012年11月27日 · Yeah I was probably going overboard on causality, but I have never seen a CV joint fail for any other reason than lack of lubrication, unless you count collisions. If you want to split hairs more, I am talking about the Rzeppa type CV joints that are commonly found on the outboard end of axle halfshafts (especially FWD).

2019年1月21日 · Ultimately if this is DIY, the vehicle has some lifespan (miles and low rust) left, I would go ahead and replace both CV axles and hubs. Either way if you DIY, make sure you tighten the axle nuts to the correct torque spec, with weight on the wheel at final torque.

Generally if a CV joint goes the worst problem would be a LOUD clicking sound from the axle, especially on turns. If it were to SNAP (which it really can't do, but I guess it COULD fall apart) it would just leave the wheel freewheeling.

Then I'd clean it up with carb cleaner and whatever took the axle grease off it, add new grease and a boot with bands. Never had one of those salvage parts go bad.
