Baidoa (Arabic: بَيْطَبَوْ, Somali (Af-Maxaa): Baydhabo, Maay: Baydhowy) is the largest city of the South West State of Somalia. Between 2002 and 2014, Baidoa was the capital of the South West State.

Baidoa (also known as Baydhabo) is the largest city in Southern Somalia and the state capital of Bay Region, with a population of 1.2 million in 2022. Baidoa is a war zone, so travel here is dangerous. Baidoa and the broader Bay region are home to a number of important ancient sites.

Baidoa is the main sorghum trading market of Somalia’s Sorghum-Belt. The Bay region has the highest surplus sorghum production in Somalia. Bay regional surplus sorghum is traded through Baidoa markets, supplying surrounding southern regions, as well as Somalia’s northeast regions and parts of neighbouring Kenya and Ethiopia.
