You could see if a pest control company/professional with experience in treating for bed bugs can identify whether it's a bed or bat bug; some might have labs or the ability to send a sample to an entomologist.

After my first experience with bat bugs I filled the crevice after they left for the winter and have seen no droppings since. According to your website a bat bug population won't be sustained on human blood but after many years I still get bitten, usually in early summer or early fall.

Since bats migrate depending on temperature and food supplies, so to must the bat bugs forage for food when local colonies of bats are gone. Bat bugs can exist several months without eating but extended periods without food will cause an exodus which may or may not be random.

I purchased a house that our inspector misidentified bat guano for squirrel droppings. We quickly learned our bat infestation had a secondary infestation of bat bugs. Long story short, and years of fighting the bats, we finally excluded the bats for good past fall. We had both attics restored and our bat bug issues continued.
