Gram-Positive Bacilli (Rods) and Diseases • Microbe Online
There are five medically important genera of gram-positive bacilli: Bacillus, Clostridium, Corynebacterium, Listeria, and Gardnerella. Endospore-forming ability: Bacillus and Clostridia are spore-forming rods, while Listeria, Gardnerella, and Corynebacterium are not.
The cytopathology of Actinomyces, Nocardia, and their mimickers
Nocardia species and Actinomyces species are 2 of the most commonly diagnosed filamentous bacteria in routine cytopathology practice. These genera share many overlapping cytomorphologic features, including their thin, beaded, branching, Gram-positive, GMS-positive filamentous structures that fragmen …
Chapter 28: Actinomyces and Nocardia - McGraw Hill Medical
Actinomyces are typically elongated gram-positive rods that branch at acute angles (Figure 28–1). They are gram-positive bacilli that grow slowly (4-10 days) under microaerophilic or strictly anaerobic conditions. In pus and tissues, the most characteristic form is …
Gram Positive Bacilli or Rods: Introduction, List of Bacteria, Keyno
2022年2月22日 · ‘ Gram Positive Bacilli (GPB) ‘ is also called Gram Positive Rods (GPR) bacteria which retain crystal violet dye and stain blue or purple on Gram’s staining.
(a) Gram stain of blood culture showing a cluster of beaded …
Nocardia farcinica is a Gram-positive weakly acid-fast filamentous saprophytic bacterium, an uncommon cause of human infections, acquired usually through the respiratory tract,...
Gram-Positive Rods - Basicmedical Key
2017年1月26日 · There are four medically important genera of gram-positive rods: Bacillus, Clostridium, Corynebacterium, and Listeria. Bacillus and Clostridium form spores, whereas Corynebacterium and Listeria do not. Members of the genus Bacillus are aerobic, whereas those of the genus Clostridium are anaerobic (Table 17–1).
2013年12月21日 · Wet prep for motility and slide catalase are discouraged, as potential exposure to dangerous pathogens is great. Tube motility and tube catalase are stongly recommended. Select Agents are infectious substances that have been determined to have the potential to pose a severe threat to humans.
Gram-Positive Organisms Recovered From Culture - LabCE
Lactobacillus: Long, slender GPRs, often in long chains like spaghetti. Nocardia: Branching, long, thin filaments. May demonstrate the diphtheroid appearance; tend to stain with a beaded, gram-variable pattern. Clostridium species RARELY exhibit a diphtheroidal morphology. They are large, "box-car" shaped bacilli that may contain spores.
Novel Fastidious, Partially Acid-Fast, Anaerobic Gram-Positive …
We report a novel anaerobe causing abscess in four patients at three hospitals. In the clinical specimen, bacilli were branching, Gram positive, and acid fast. The organism grew slowly and was not identified by 16S rRNA sequencing. Our findings support the description of a new genus and species of the suborder Corynebacterineae. Case 1.
Chapter 17: Gram-Positive Rods - McGraw Hill Medical
There are five medically important genera of gram-positive rods: Bacillus, Clostridium, Corynebacterium, Listeria, and Gardnerella. Bacillus and Clostridium form spores, whereas Corynebacterium, Listeria, and Gardnerella do not. Members of the genus Bacillus are aerobic, whereas those of the genus Clostridium are anaerobic (Table 17–1).
