Bede Wing - Wikipedia
The Bede Wing was an inflated hang glider, designed in the 1970s by aeronautical engineer Jim Bede. Intended as a safer alternative to conventional hang gliders, [1] it resembled an early ram-air parachute, but instead was an inflatable structure, that could be filled with air for gliding, or with helium to act as a gas balloon. Three-piece spar assembles quickly, is light and strong, and permits foldable wing option. The all metal design incorporates a fiberglass fuel sump to alleviate any possibility of fuel starvation. The new wing is available in kit form from Bede Aviation, or visit our Build Center for explicit help which usually takes 3 days.
Experimental Aircraft & Kit Planes – Jim Bede
The wings are all metal construction using Bede Aero trusted tubular spars, and can be removed easily in less than 3 minutes for storage. The BD-1 was the second aircraft designed by Jim Bede Sr., even though its conception started well before the project was. The BD-2 is a one-of-a-kind, specially built aircraft.
BD-4C – Experimental Aircraft & Kit Planes - Bede BD-4
Second generation Jim Bede-designed all-metal “wet” cantilever high wing design with the same 64-415 modified airfoil. The bonded wing skin is rivet-free except for the trailing edge spar. Ribs are 1/2″ aluminum honeycomb. 10, 20, and 30-degree flap deflection.

2018年6月13日 · Bede introduced the bonded-metal wing with CNC-cut ribs of aluminum honeycomb on the single-seat BD-17, said Becker, and “it was just a natural progression for the BD-4.” Solid ribs determine the wet wing’s fuel capacity, which ranges from 51 to 80 gallons.

John Steere's Metal Wing Building Instructions (Introduction) - BD-4
John’s plans are for the wing only, assuming the builder would construct the flaps and ailerons according to the BD-4 plans published by Jim Bede. The wing portrayed in the photos was assembled following the step-by-step instructions in John’s plans. The wings are extended 22 inches per side as described in Jim Bede’s optional wing extension plans.
