Formula 5000 or F5000 is a historic single seater, open wheeler series that is currently run in New Zealand. The cars are made to be kept as period correct as possible and thus are split into two classes Group A which are cars built before 1971 and Group B cars built in and after 1971.

Begg's FM2, FM3 Formula Fords, FM4 and FM5 cars were given the FM prefix for Fred McLean, who built the cars and was one of the key members of the Begg team until he left in 1973 when the rest of the team set off to compete in the British F5000 season. McLean then approached Allan McCully and offered to build a F5000 for him.

Formula 5000 (or F5000) was an open wheel, single seater auto-racing formula that ran in different series in various regions around the world from 1968 to 1982. It was originally intended as a low-cost series aimed at open-wheel racing cars that no longer fit into any particular formula.
