The Beriev MDR-5 (Morskoi Dalnii Razvyeedchik - Long-range reconnaissance)(sometimes Beriev MS-5) was a Soviet long-range reconnaissance/bomber flying boat prototype developed by the Beriev design bureau at Taganrog. [1] It did not enter production as the rival Chyetverikov MDR-6 was preferred.

Beriev MDR-5 was an all-metal twin-engine monoplane with engines on the leading edge of the wing. The plane was built in two copies at once - a flying boat and an amphibian on wheels.

The "MDR-5" was a twin-engine flying boat, powered by twin Mikulin M-87 radials with 710 kW (950 HP), over twice as heavy as the MBR-2. Two were built, the first flying in 1938, but the state chose a competing design instead.
