2022年8月26日 · Bethany is probably best known for being the hometown of Jesus’ good friends, Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. Bethany was the place where Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead (John 11:1, 41–44), it was the home of Simon the leper (Mark 14:3–10), and it was the place where Mary anointed Jesus’ feet with perfume (Matthew 26:6–13).

It has also been suggested, based on the names found carved on thousands of ossuaries at the site, that Bethany in the time of Jesus was settled by people from Galilee who had come to live by Jerusalem. This would explain why Jesus and the disciples, as Galileans, would find it convenient to stay here when visiting Jerusalem. [77] As Capper writes,

John 12:1 Then six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, who had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. (1) A village, 15 furlongs from Jerusalem (John 11:18), on the road to Jericho, at the Mount of Olives (Mark 11:1 Luke 19:29), where lived "Simon the leper" (Mark 14:3) and Mary, Martha and Lazarus (John 11:18 f).

It seems generally to have served as Jesus’ abode when in Judea (Matt 21:17; Mark 11:11). Bethany also was the home of Simon the leper in whose house our Lord was anointed with the alabaster jar of ointment at the hands of a woman ( Mark 14:3-9 ; Luke 7:36-50 ; John 12:1-8 ).

2024年5月21日 · Six days before His final Passover, on the weekly Sabbath beginning on Nisan 8, 33 C.E., Jesus arrived at Bethany (John 12:1). The following evening, at the beginning of Nisan 9, He attended an evening meal in the home of Simon the leper, with Martha, Mary, and Lazarus.
