An armoured vehicle-launched bridge (AVLB) [1] is a combat support vehicle, sometimes regarded as a subtype of military engineering vehicle, designed to assist militaries in rapidly deploying tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles across gap-type obstacles, such as rivers.

The current Armoured Vehicle Launched Bridge (AVLB) of the Bundeswehr is the Brückenlegepanzer 1 Biber (Beaver). After the end of trials, MaK in Kiel received a contract in December 1971 for the delivery of 105 Biber bridge-layers with bridges.

All 105 AVLBs were handed over by April 1975. The Armoured Bridge-Layer 1 Biber has a two-piece bridge with a length of 22m and an MLC 50 load capacity; it is launched using the free cantilever method. As an exceptional load, vehicles up to MLC 60 can cross the bridge. Trenches up to 20m wide can be spanned by the bridge.
