The SI is defined by the SI Brochure, published by the BIPM. Prior to the historic vote by the BIPM's Member States on 16 November 2018 to revise the SI, the SI was defined in terms of seven base units and derived units defined as products of powers of the base units.

The BIPM encourages the use of its official 150th Anniversary logo to promote and celebrate this significant milestone in metrology. Please help us to ensure consistent and appropriate usage by following these guidelines:
