Bkan 1 was one of the world's heaviest and most powerful (in terms of volume of fire) self-propelled artillery vehicles in use during its service. It had a 155 mm autocannon with an exceptionally high rate of fire, being able to fire 15 shells in 45 seconds with one round preloaded and full magazine of two rows of seven rounds in a clip. [3]

The 155 mm Bandkanon 1A was developed by the now Bofors Defence (now owned by United Defense of the USA) in the late 1950s, with the first prototype completed in 1960. In 1965, the company was awarded a production contract for the vehicle worth SKr60 million.

In an emergency move or dash move, with both engines operating, the Bkan 1 does have a great deal of power and quick power response. A by-product of the use of the S103’s drive train and suspension components is its ability to rock the chassis back and forth, useful for quick azimuth changes and fine tuning.

In 1966, the Swedish army decided to introduce 26 (according to other sources 29) modernized self-propelled guns under the designation 15.5 cm Bandkanonvagn 1C, later adopted the shorter designation Bandkanon 1C. Swedish companies: Bofors, Volvo and Ladsverk participated in the production and modernization.

Introduced in Update "Winged Lions", the Bkan 1C mounts a massive 155 mm cannon firing powerful HE and HE-VT shells. It has an extremely quick reload of 3.2s, but is otherwise extremely sluggish, has only -2 degrees of gun depression, thin armour, and only 14 rounds.
