The colors black and red have been used by anarchists since at least the late 1800s when they were used on cockades by Italian anarchists in the 1874 Bologna insurrection and in 1877 when anarchists entered the Italian town of Letino carrying red and black flags to promote the First International. [2]

The black and red anarchy flag is the symbol of anarcho-syndicalist and anarcho-communist movements. It represents the combination of the traditional colors of anarchism (black) and socialism/communism (red), with a simple diagonal split.

The red-and-black flag is the symbol of the anarcho-syndicalism and anarchist communism movement. Anarcho-syndicalism, which is part of the labor union movement, draws its principles from both anarchism and more heavily from socialism than many other anti-capitalist anarchist movements.

Suffice to say, there is no “White Flag of Anarchy” and the symbols of Anarchy remain black and red – with purple (anarcha-feminism) and green (eco-anarchism) added in the latter-half of the twentieth century
