Jan 7, 2025 · Founded in Collingwood in Ontario, Canada, in the early 1950s, Blue Mountain Pottery was one of Canada's largest potteries. It was established by a group of Czechoslovakian immigrants: Jozo Weider, a ski instructor; Denis Tupy, a ceramic mold maker; and Mirek Hambalek, a ceramic decorator.

Examples in other popular glazes such as mocha, slate, jade, red or blue have not been seen by collectors or found in known Blue Mountain Pottery catalogues. But a few collectors do have a rare green example with a blue base.

Many of these were designed by Dennis Tupy, one of the most important names connected to the pottery – and indeed Canadian pottery of the period. Prices range from £20-50 or so, depending on the quality of the glaze, the shape and the size. Stylised, and stylish, animal sculptures are also popular, with a focus on elegant elongation.
