Boehm made his first flute, a four-key flute, in 1810. His Munich flute workshop was established in 1828. The simple system flutes he produced then were light and agile, had small holes, and had easy and bright high notes (rather like French flutes of the time had). He wrote virtuosic music for, and performed it on, these flutes.
