The Initial damage and subsequent Bleed when upgraded deal a fair bit of damage. The additional Slow can make it a decent option to giving you more kiting potential while still dealing a good amount of damage.

Endgame PvE goal is to get an interchangable protection amulet for every damage type. Calming armor gems gives more dps in Raid Compositions with a traditional Tank. Only run calming gems in armor if you are confident in mechanics otherwise run Onyx.
