Some believers in paranormal activity theorize that electronic radio devices or EM fields are susceptible to manipulation by other worldly spirits, and thus this can be used as a communications method.

Gqrx provides a live visualization of the spectrum and the ability to fine tune and control many parameters of the radio, such as gain, demodulation, squelch, and noise filtering. Ghost boxes usually scan AM or FM. By using SDR, we have a vastly larger spectrum available (though AM may require an upconverter, depending on which SDR is used.)

The box contains a full set of tolls that are necessary to build a radio transmitter or receiver, pack it in a bag and enjoy listening (or transmitting) far away from civilization. Implemented in a real hacker-style, using cardboard box and a bunch of zip-ties to put all components together.

The box in its current state makes a great base for an ultra-chap, portable HAM radio station, or a GSM base station. Supplemented with solar cell and battery charging circuit can be installed in a remote location and accessed only when hardware failure occurs.
