I have a 5 zone mini split being installed in my house. The branch box is to be located in the attic. However I noticed this verbage in the installation manual “ Do not install the branch box in location that is hot and humid for long periods of time “. I live in Missouri so it gets really hot in the attic even on 75 degree days.

2025年2月13日 · The smaller multi splits with many ports essentially have the branch box built in. Where it gest confusing is the newer Mitsubishi SM units. The SM series have SM specific indoor units which have all the branch box smarts built in so you can hook it up to an SM outdoor unit simply with a bunch of refrigerant splitters.

Now -- using a branch box changes everything. There is a whole other table for that and I could have made a 3 head work in my new build if I had used the Branch box -- there you get more capacity. I ended up using 3 singles. It was a cleaner install and I had no way of hiding the two fan unit that was going to be required.

My line length from the condenser to the Branch Box is ~10m and the line sets from the branch box to 2 of the evaporators is is about 15m each. The 3rd evaporator sits right next to the branch box, so in a perfect world my line length would only be ~2m to that unit. But LG says that no individual line set should be less than 5m.

Last question - any issue with a lineset run on one of the heads at about 72 feet? Really appreciate any info as there's just not an easy way to find this info elsewhere. Thanks very much.

My installer who worked with Mitsubishi to get the details fine tuned says that a branch box can be installed outdoors as long as its protected from the elements. The manual itself says that its possible as long as you use an accessory box, which is essentially a sheet metal box.

Trying to find out if there is a lower Btu (1.5-2 ton) mini split system that uses a branch box. I have a new addition highly insulated that could use a 3 head system. But since the walls are reinforced concrete (ICF) it will be difficult to run 3 refrigerant lines to the exterior.
