Braw Lads day is a ceremonial ride out, established in 1930 to commemorate events and associations in the history of the town. It is led by the Braw Lad and Braw Lass along with their four Attendants, Bearer of the Sod, Bearer of the Red Roses, Bearer of the Stone and Bearer of the White Roses, who carry out ceremonies along the route.

The Braw Lad, Braw Lass and Attendants are greeted with enthusiastic applause as they are about to be seated at the top table as the Associations' guests. The evening combines tradition with music, song and lyric while the speeches range from the poignant and serious through to hilarity and smiles.

His companion for the day is the Braw Lass, also elected by the townspeople. The pl., Braw Lads and Braw Lasses, is applied to the younger portion of the community as a whole. Cf.

“It’s a braw bricht moonlit nicht the nicht” This translates to : It’s a good (or brilliant), bright, moonlit night tonight. Truth is, it’s very rarely used. Note: While it’s a beautiful phrase, it’s also one of the rare Scottish phrases to say. If you get it wrong, just be sure to try again!

2015年6月2日 · Every year a local man and woman are appointed to be Braw Lad and Braw Lass. They will take part in the ceremonies and lead the ride outs, where hundreds of people ride through the town and across the countryside on horseback.

2024年4月16日 · GALASHIELS will gather at the Burgh Chambers this week to celebrate 2024's Braw Lad and Lass. On Friday, April 19 Braw Lad 2023 Cory Patterson and his Lass Emma Spence hand over the reins to this year's principals.

The Investiture of the Braw Lad and the Braw Lass is traditionally held on the Friday night. At this ceremony they both receive their sashes, which will be worn during the next 24 hours. The Braw Lad receives his sash from the Chair of the Ex-Braw Lads’ and Lasses Association and the Braw Lass receives hers from two Overseas Guests.

A fun social group, with a common bond, work to support the current Gathering Principals and the Braw Lads’ Gathering. This includes holding events, getting involved in the Fancy Dress, supplying people and logistics as well as helping to fund elements of the Principals activities and duties throughout the summer.
