I seriously would recommend baking it and slicing thinner if you don't wanna buy the pepperidge farm bread (which I can't blame you. I swear that isn't really bread) In all seriousness, making proper bread just takes a few tries to get it down. My wife and I make bread often.

I've tried putting it in plastic bags, but then I loose that crusty exterior and it's all soft (which isn't as good). The technique of the recipe should largely remain the same, including the mixing, fermentation time, shaping, etc. Baking time may be reduced a little bit because of the smaller volume, but I doubt it would be half the time. Probably like 3 to 5 minutes less than called for.

Alternatively, you could probably just put your slice of bread between any two flat objects (dont squeeze) and cut the bread yourself. Also there's adjustable bread slicers at Bezosmart or whatever for about $5 you just have to buy unsliced bread to start with.

Much easier to write a recipe for 2 loaves which can be split or doubled as the case may be.
