Painter, printmaker and digital animation pioneer, Bu Hua’s work has been seen in solo and group exhibitions in China, Australia, Korea, Taiwan, Italy, Slovenia, the USA, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand. Born in Beijing in 1973, and growing up surrounded by artists, Bu Hua ‘learned the language of lines’ from earliest childhood.

2016年7月29日 · Bu Hua (卜桦) is a striking figure in the (relatively short) history of digital art. She has become well known for her digital artworks and specifically her flash animations. She was introduced to Flash in the early 2000s and published her first animation works on the now-defunct Chinese website flashempire.com in 2002.

Modern East Asian History. I am a historian of law and empire in modern East Asia. In addition to a deep fascination with the many transnational connections in this world region, I have a special obsession with a Northeast Asian borderland called Manchuria.

LV Forest (2010) features Bu Hua’s feisty schoolgirl character once again, at first dancing demurely, before riding triumphantly on skeletal monsters, in a savage skewering of China’s rampant consumerism, competition and inequality.

Savage Growth (2008) is an animated allegory of industrialisation, pollution and militarisation. Bu Hua’s Young Pioneer stands atop a building, conducting a flock of birds that morph into pairs of white gloves, flying above a devastated landscape in which distorted trees grow out of pools of oil.
