Uran Togoo Tulga Nature Reserve (1600 hectare), about 60 km west of Bulgan, is famous for its extinct volcanoes, e.g. Uran Uul. Bulgan experiences a subarctic climate (Köppen climate classification Dwc) with mild summers and severely cold winters. Precipitation is very low, but significantly higher in summer than at other times of the year.

Bulgan Uul is made up of steep cliffs and scattered boulders for about 40% of its area. Rare plant and animal species such as Red Deer, Musk, and Wild Boar can be found on the mountain, as well as Black Grouse, Capecaillie, and Ptarmigan. Tsagaan Davaa, on the mountain’s western side, is the most well-known pass.

A small aimag capital, the city of Bulgan has long been known to foreigners as an overnight stop midway between Ulaanbaatar and the ever-popular Khovsgol Nuur. If you've been traveling in central or southern Mongolia, Bulgan city may impress you with its conifers, log cabins and absence of gers, though there's little reason to linger.

Mongolia's largest river, the Selenge Gol, crosses the aimag's north, and the Orkhon and Tuul rivers meander around the southern parts. Bulgan aimag is rich in beautiful places, such as Eg-Selenge, Eg-Tarvagatai meadow, Uran-Togoo, Khugnukhan. Khuiji, Uurt and other springs of the province are popular destinations.

The province of Bulgan is located in the North of Mongolia and includes the Khangai range, forests, and steppes. It has a border with Russia. The soil is sandy, with semidesert characteristics in the South. Mounts Bulgan Khan Uul, Buregkhangai, and Dulaankhan are the highest of the region.

The Uran Togoo and Tulga Mountain is Natural Monument is a national protected area in the Bulgan Province of Mongolia. All four mountain names allude to their volcanic past with designations borrowed from around the fireplace.

Bulgan is a sum (district) of Dornod Province in eastern Mongolia. Founded in 1931. The soum borders on the east and east of Bayantumen soum, in the south east of Matad, in front of Sukhbaatar soum of Sukhbaatar aimag, Khulenbuir in the west and west of Tsagaan-Ovoo soum.

The provincial capital, Bulgan, serves as the administrative and economic center. It covers an area of approximately 48,734 square kilometers and has a population of over 60,000.

Bulgan is located in the northern region - Orkhon and Selenge river basins bordering to Selenge, Tuv, Uvurkahngai, Arkhangai and Khuvsgul provinces respectively and to the Russia for 160km border line. It is overall a mountainous area.
