Airbus developed a removable air-to-air refuelling (AAR) kit, which refuelled a C295 from the Spanish Air Force during flight tests.

Equipped with retractable landing gear and an unobstructed 12.69 metre pressurised cabin, the C295 can cruise at altitudes up to 30,000 ft while maintaining excellent low-level flight characteristics. The EADS CASA C-295 is a tactical transport aircraft, designed for the movement of personnel and cargo within military conditions. Accordingly, it can be operated from austere airstrips with minimal reliance on ground support infrastructures; it can reportedly be operated on soft ground without major issues even when heavily loaded.

For easy cargo access, there is a roller loading system installed, and a wide door and cargo ramp in the upswept rear fuselage. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127G turboprop engines, C295M has a maximum thrust of 2,644 hp and 2,919 hp with auto power reserve.

The C-295M is the basic (military) transport version of the C-295, itself a three metre longer development of the CN-235. In addition, it has six blade propellers and two wheels on the nose gear as standard. Finally, the C-295 has a taller vertical stabiliser, with the rudder not extending to its top. The C-295 is based on the earlier CN-235 but has a much longer fuselage. The wings are fitted on top of the fuselage and at there rear there is a large loading ramp. Two Pratt & Whitney PW127G turboprops provide propulsion and are fitted with six blade propellers.
