The proof of I-765 application says that she should have an automatic 180 day extension to her current EAD while she waits for her new card to arrive. HOWEVER, a stipulation is that the category for the renewal must match the current EAD.

Hello there. The recently expired EAD is of Category C03B. I have applied for C03C (EAD Renewal under STEM OPT Extension). I received two receipts - Class C03B and C03C and both receipts/ Notice of Action of Form I-797C says that I would have an automatic 180 day extension.
