The GE C36-7 is a 6-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by GE Transportation Systems, GE do Brazil and A Goninan & Co between 1978 and 1989. It is an updated GE U36C with a 16-cylinder FDL engine, externally similar to the GE C30-7 but with larger air intakes under the radiators.

While the locomotive was generally rated at 3,600 horsepower, late era variants acquired by Missouri Pacific were uprated to 3,750 horsepower and featured many "Dash 8" specifications.

The C36-7 model was manufactured between 1978 and 1989, and was fitted with a 16-cylinder 7FDL16 engine. Most were made in the United States, but GE do Brasil built 15 C36-7s for Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México. A total of 599 units of the model were built; 422 of them were exported to the People's Republic of China, which designated it ND5.
