The Rapido HO scale C40-8M was released as a "budget" model with fewer details and parts then found on previous Rapido locomotives. Thanks! The way the trucks are weathered on the real ones threw me off for a bit. Nearly every railroads trucks are painted black, and they weather to a flat dark brown/black, and then (to me) seem to then get lightened by the road grime in shades of brown, grey, and tan. Some of the CN ex-BC Rail C40-8M's got black trucks and fuel tanks.

The 26 C40-8Mu (4601-4626) were upgraded by BC Rail between 1995 and 2003. That included not only split cooling but modifying electronics to Dash 9 and uprating from 4000hp to 4400hp effectively making them a "Dash 9-44C".

Secondly, on my BCR C40-8, the ditch lights worked for about 1 minute and then went out. Turns out the fireman's side ditch light LED is shorted, and Rapido is sending me new ones. I just had the same problem with an Atlas U36B - the nose light LED was shorted. Fine Chinese quality control, or lack thereof.
