The de Havilland Canada DHC-4 Caribou (designated by the United States military as the CV-2 and later C-7 Caribou) is a Canadian specialized cargo aircraft with short takeoff and landing (STOL) capability.

The plane is designed to clear a 50-foot obstacle in a distance of 1,040 feet with no wind. With a 20 mph head wind, the distance needed is 460 feet. Landing over a 50 foot obstacle is accomplished in 590 feet, shortened to 300 feet with a 10 mph head wind.

In addition to exceptionally short-field capabilities, the C-7 was extremely manuverable and very simply constructed, two qualities that made it ideal for airdrop operations into confined areas in the face of enemy fire.

The C-7A (DHC-4) is a light tactical transport designed for operation in the most primitive of conditions. Capable of carrying passengers, litter patients, or cargo, it can land and take off on unprepared surfaces of less than 1,000 feet in length.
