Manggarai people also have a traditional folk sport and war dance called caci, a form of whip fighting where fighting and parrying each other using a whip and a shield is usually performed by two young men in a large field.

Caci is an ancient fighting art indigenous to the Lesser Sunda Islands. According to local folklore, caci during festivals began with two brothers who owned a buffalo. When the younger brother fell into a deep hole, the older brother had to slaughter the buffalo to get its skin to help his sibling escape from the hole. [3] .

Caci is the most heroic dance of the Manggarai tribe, in West Flores Indonesia. Generally, the dance will only be performed at cultural ceremonies/festivals such as “the Wedding festival, Penti “thanksgiving ceremony” or when it is welcoming VIP Guests.

Caci Dance only occurs during special occasions like local thanksgiving due to abundant crops given by the god. Some locals also perform the dance during a family reunion, which is done by Manggarai Tribe only.
