The Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad purchased twelve Hudsons from the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1930. These 4-6-4's were designated Class S-4 and assigned road numbers 3000 through 3011. The CB&Q also built two Hudsons in its own shops and assigned them road numbers 3012 and 4001.

2025年1月23日 · Number 3000 was completed during September 1930 (c/n 61445) and sold for scrap in April 1955. The CB&Q ordered 12 4-6-4's, classed S-4, from Baldwin in 1930 (road #'s 3000-3011), and had one additional boiler built in 1935, which was shipped to the Q's West Burlington shops and used in the construction of S-4 3012.

2012年8月1日 · CBQ S-4 #3001 was donated to the City of Ottumwa, IA, by the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy in August 1959 on the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the first train into Ottumwa on the Burlington & Missouri Railroad, later part of the CB&Q. It is on display in Ballingall Park next to the Amtrak depot.

The Burlington Route's first twelve class S-4 Hudsons, Nos. 3000-3011, were delivered by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1930. In 1937 the railroad's West Burlington shops constructed a thirteenth locomotive, No. 3012.
