They also don't know that Sasaki is Kaneki, and he doesn't know himself.

In Tokyo Ghoul:re — the continuation of the series — taking three years after the official, Haise Sasaki becomes his identity. He serves now as a First Rank Investigator as the mentor of the CCG's Quinx Squad and a team member of Team Mado.

He is the protagonist of Tokyo Ghoul:re, and is a First Class Ghoul Investigator, the mentor of the Quinx Squad and a member of Team Mado. Haise's duties are overseen by Akira Mado and Kishou Arima. Haise is a self-contained, good-natured individual. As a Ghoul Investigator, he comes off as trustworthy, loyal and devoted.

He is mentor of the Quinx Squad, CCG investigaters given powers of ghouls. As far as he can remember, he has been haunted in his dreams and visions of a boy chained to a chair claiming that Haise has stolen his body. He later finds out that it is his past life and alternative personality, Kaneki, who like Haise, doesn't want to be forgotten.
