The CFM International CFM56 (U.S. military designation F108) series is a Franco-American family of high-bypass turbofan aircraft engines made by CFM International (CFMI), with a thrust range of 18,500 to 34,000 lbf (82 to 150 kN).

The CFM56 engine set the industry standard for single-aisle commercial jet engines that holds today. Owing its success to its exceptional reliability and performance, CFM56 was built on over four decades of experience and technological excellence.

As the sole powerplant for the 737-300/-400/-500, the CFM56-3 will continue operating in large numbers for another 20 years on account of the aircraft’s popularity. The CFM56 family has a two-shaft design and provides a range of engines rated between 18,000lbs and 34,000lbs thrust across five series.

CFM56-3 (CFM56-3C1, CFM56-3B1 & CFM56-3B2) engines are manufactured by CFM International for Boeing 737 Classic family aircraft (737-300, 737-400 & 737-500) which were produced from 1984 - 1999. Thrust rating ranges from 18,500 lbs. to 23,500 lbs.

The CFM56-3 was designed for Boeing 737-300/-400/-500 Classic aircraft. Derived from the CFM56-2, this super-reliable turbofan is still in service worldwide. The CFM56-3-powered Boeing 737 revenue service in 1984 and quickly became one of the best-selling engine/aircraft combinations ever.

The CFM56-3 is a high bypass, dual rotor, axial flow turbofan engine. Basic engine specification are provided in Fig 1 and 2. The integrated fan and booster (low pressure turbine-LPC) is driven by a 4 stage low pressure turbine (LPT).

The CFM56-3 turbofan engine is a prominent high-bypass, dual rotor engine variant known for its efficiency and thrust capabilities, particularly in commercial aviation, such as on the Boeing 737 models.
