The MLW M-420 was a diesel-electric locomotive manufactured between 1973 and 1977 in Montreal, Canada by the Montreal Locomotive Works. A total of 88 units were built for Canadian railways, including eight B units built for the British Columbia Railway; most of production went to Canadian National. [2] .

Canadian National 3502 was an MLW M-420W diesel-electric locomotive that was owned and operated by the Canadian National Railway (CN) and which became famous when it served as an emergency generator for the city of Boucherville, Quebec, during a severe snowstorm in 1998.

2024年8月13日 · The M420 was produced by the Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW) during the mid-1970s as a continuation of Alco's former C420 line. The 2,000 horsepower model was a modest success although only 98 were produced between 1973-1977, including a small order of eight cabless "B" units for British Columbia Railway.

The Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW) M420 is a 2,000 horsepower, four axle road switcher locomotive, purchased by Canadian National, BC Rail, and Providence & Worcester. The locomotive remains in service today on various short-line railroads throughout North America.

On the first of May 1979, Peter J. Coulombe shot CN M420W 2512 leading train #303 out of Portland, ME, back to Canada. CN M420W 2518 leads a westbound over the Little Androscoggin River in South Paris, Maine, with a trailing DW&P RS11 on February 25th, 1978.
