CN SD38-2 5701, Greenway, Manitoba; June 5, 1991_ In 1975 General Mortors Diesel Division ( simply EMD of Canada) built four SD38-2s for the Northern Alberta Railways. Until 1981 the NAR was jointly owned by the CP and CN. On January 1, 1981, the CN purchased CP's stake in NAR and the SD38-2s became CN property.

2015年10月31日 · CN owns four SD38-2 that use the CN reporting mark (CN also has SD38-2s the use the BLE, DMIR & EJE reporting marks). The four CN units were built for Northern Alberta Railways in 1975 as NAR 401 - 404 and were used to haul heavy grain & ore trains up the seven mile grade from Peace River to McLennan.
