Chicago & North Western 7009 is the only preserved example of an SD50 diesel freight locomotive. This model was built in La Grange, Illinois, through most of the 1980s by EMD, with over 400 examples being constructed. C&NW 7009 was sold to a locomotive leasing company in 2001 and retired from active service in 2006.

2022年11月2日 · At IRM, 7009 will be the seventh C&NW locomotive and the 26th EMD locomotive in the Museum’s diesel collection, considered by many to be the most comprehensive in preservation.

IRM plans to restore its full C&NW markings and make the locomotive fully operational for service on its 5-mile demonstration railroad. The 7009 is the very first SD50 locomotive to be preserved in a museum, even as sister SD50s continue to toil in common-carrier service on a variety of regional and short line railroads.

Per the Illinois Railway Museum Diesel Shop Facebook page, IRM has acquired CNW SD50 7009 from NRE. Locomotive is reportedly at Silvis IL. What condition? Are any other SD50s in museums?

2022年10月28日 · IRMX (CNW) 7009 Former Chicago, and North Western SD50 7009 was sold into the NRE lease fleet shortly after the merger with the Union Pacific. After languishing in the line of stored locomotives at Silvis, IL, the Illinois Railway Museum purchased it to become the first EMD SD50 saved by a museum.
