The mission of the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) is to bring objective, scientific information related to cool surfaces to critical discussions and informed decisions about the impacts of heat islands, extreme heat, and energy use in the built environment

A CRRC product rating describes the radiative performance of a roofing material; it does not indicate a ranking or approval. A product’s placement on the Rated Products Directory (Directory) does not mean that the product is “cool” as defined by any particular code or program.

The CRRC Product Label aids in quick compliance of building codes and programs that require roofing products meet specific radiative performance levels for the reduction of energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, and/or helping mitigate the impacts of the urban heat island effect.

Sign up today! The CRRC Rated Roof Products Directory is a free, online database that can be used to identify roofing products that comply with various building codes, financial incentives, and voluntary green building programs (e.g., LEED, Green Globes).

What is the CRRC Standard Label? The CRRC Standard Label, shown in Figure A below, consists of a rectangle with the CRRC Logo, CRRC Rated Product ID number, initial and aged solar reflectance and thermal emittance values, and a legal disclaimer.

Since all roofing products can be rated by CRRC, consumers and builders should use the CRRC label to identify which roof products meet their purchasing objectives— qualifying for ENERGY STAR, meeting building code requirements and/or receiving utility rebates. CRRC tests products when they are new and aged.

The CRRC Online Rating Portal, or “The Portal,” is the CRRC’s way to submit and manage product rating applications. You can also pay fees and annual renewals through the Portal’s invoicing function.
