CSPD Community Service Officers (CSOs) assist police officers by responding to and investigating lower-priority calls for service. As a result of the CSO Unit taking over these calls for service, police officers are able to respond to higher-priority calls in a timely manner.

The CSPD has an academy for CSO's. Training includes crime prevention, writing reports and coordinating with sworn officers. “They know how to check for evidence, and they'll contact neighbors and give tips,” Rigdon said.

Recruits and Lateral Officers must attend the full 26-week Training Academy. The Academy staff is composed of highly trained and specialized CSPD officers, civilian support staff and CAPS volunteers dedicated to training those who will serve in our community.
