The rebuilds are numbered in the 7000-7600 series and CSX is referring to them as CM44ACs and CM44AHs. NS recently acquired 36 of these locomotives from CEFX in June 2023. They are currently being patched for starting service on the roster.

2025年1月1日 · The AC4400CW was basically a variant of the C44-9W in that it featured AC (alternating current) traction motors instead of the more traditional DC (direct current) traction motors. Different from the traditional DCs, AC traction motors are much more simple, reliable, and easier to maintain albeit they costs far more.

2007年4月30日 · They are sometimes classified as “C44-8Ws”, sharing the step well arrangement of the C40-8Ws, as well as some other features, notably the trucks. However, they were built with the C44-9W cooling arrangement and 4400 HP. I think they were built to use up -8 parts, but I’m not sure. I think CSX has no standard C44-9Ws.

The GE AC4400CW, sometimes referred as "AC44CW" is a 4,400 horsepower (3,300 kW) diesel-electric locomotive that was built by GE Transportation Systems between 1993 and 2004. Similar to the Dash 9-44CW, the AC44CW uses AC traction motors instead of DC, using a separate inverter per motor.

CSX #4225-4284 are former CSX SD40-2's #8800-8868 which are ex Conrail with Flexicoil trucks. #4285-4371 are former CSX 8300-8400 SD40-2 rebuilds which started life as SD40's (and a few SD45's). #4372-4383 are former CSX SD40-2 rebuilds #8900-8911 which were acquired from NS and were rebuilt by Conrail to SD40-2 specs in the early 1990's.

The trucks on the trailing unit are, as you say, like those on Dash-9 and on many AC44. This truck design has higher adhesion (less weight transfer) characteristics than the truck used on U-, Dash-7 and Dash-8 series models. It was introduced on the C44-9W in 1993, and can be used with either DC or AC motors.
