BNSF Westbound Doublestack Train at Detroit Lakes, Mn. The train was parked on the siding with some really neat and unusual power! Another note: all three SD40-2's were ex-MILW! An eastbound KCS Train under the yard tower backs out of the yard onto the mainline with an ex-LMX Locomotive on the point.

Although I was almost certain that CSX rebuilt some of their own former SD40s or were they just traded? I've seen a vew pics of various SD40s that mention that they were rebuilt into SD40-2s and even on the CSX Photo archives, some of the SD40s are listed in the 83/8400 series.

It became SBD 8041 in January 1983 and later CSX 8041, Class SD40-2, in April 1986. It was rebuilt as 4019, Class SD40-3, in 2011. 8042, Class SD40-2, was built in September 1979, #786205-3, FN 786205-3, as SCL 8042.

As part of the rebuild, all CSX 4000 series SD40-3's recieve a new cab and nose assembly designed by MotivePower in Boise,Idaho. These are former SD40-2's rebuilt to DASH 3 specs at the CSX Huntington Locomotive Shops and classed as SD40-3. There are currently 50 of these units with plans for up to 300.

Electro-Motive SD40 Diesels 8300, Class SD-40, was built in June 1966, #31799, FN 7902-1, as Gainesville Midland Ry 10. It became Seaboard System 0010 in January 1983 and became CSX 8300, Class SD-40, in April 1986.
