2017年2月1日 · ATLANTA – CSX Transportation is the latest Class I railroad to take possession of six-axle ‘Eco’ locomotives for use in local and yard service. Progress Rail recently rebuilt 13 former CSX EMD SD40-2 locomotives into a new locomotive class known as SD40E3s at its Muncie, Ind., facility.

The following information comes from Lee Yoder: The reason for numbering SD40-3's in the 4200 and 4300 series when the 4000's haven't been filled and 4100's still vacant is that the units are being grouped into different number blocks depending on the core unit used.

Although similar to the EMD SD32ECO, the SD30C-ECO follows the Canadian Pacific Railway 's request for crashworthiness and EPA emission standards with the "C" in the designation denoting crashworthiness of the cab, frame, and fuel tank.
