The General Electric U28C locomotive, developed in 1966, provided a 300 horsepower increase over its predecessor, the U25C. Built on a larger frame than the U25C, the model also incorporated other improvements, such as new floating bolster trucks. A passenger-hauling variant, the U28CG, was produced for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway.

In early 1966 General Electric began offering the 2800 horsepower U28C. A total of 28 look-a-like U28Cs were built between February 1966 and July 1966 as Chicago Burlington and Quincy #562-577 and Northern Pacific #2800-2811.

2025年1月1日 · The U28C was General Electric's second six-axle model and virtually identical to its predecessor (U25C) save for a slight increase in horsepower. When the U28C was cataloged many roads were still not embracing high-horsepower, six-axle models. As a result, this particular model witnessed few sales.

U28C Diesel Loco. Minitrix N Scale. Runs & Lights. Scale Couplers. Overall, this engine looks in very good shape and ran well when tested, has scale couplers. Looks like a wrong original box with a hand written label.

To get the CSX 7279 you will have to find one of the old Athearn wide body models. For a scale hood width model you will probably want to start with an Atlas U30C or U33/36C model then take the shell from a Walthers/Proto U28B and start a lot of cutting and grafting.

2023年11月15日 · I have in the stash at least 4 Trix U28Cs. They run great, are quiet, and they do pull a lot. However, they have huge open pilots, difficult to change Rapido couplers, and horrible bodies. So I tried to fit a chassis under an Atlas C-630, but the conversion would not work, because I would need to grind away most of the front worm gear support.

While EMD and ALCO offered 3,000 hp diesel locomotives as early as 1965, GE delivered some U25Cs uprated to 2,750 hp. The first six-axle U28C with 2,800 hp were delivered in November 1965 and the first four-axle U28B in January 1966. In the same year the power was increased to 3,000 hp, which led to the U30B and U30C.
