The spectrum of inhibition includes Ambler class A ESBLs, class C cephalosporinases, and class A and D carbapenemases (KPC and OXA-48, respectively).

CTB/VNRX-5236 was the most active agent against these CPE carrying blaOXA-48, with 96% susceptible to the combination and the lowest MIC50 /MIC90 values (0.125/0.5 μg/mL respectively). EUCAST breakpoints for CTB (S ≤ 1 μg/mL; R ≥ 2 μg/mL) were used to provisionally assign phenotypes to the combinations with VNRX-5236 and CLA.

CTB/VNRX-5236 has demonstrated potent antibacterial activity against beta-lactamases-producing Enterobacterales including KPC, CTX-M-15, P99AmpC, CMY-2, OXA-1, and OXA-48 . In vivo, efficacy of CTB/VNRX-5236 was assessed in mice injected with K. pneumoniae strain resistant to CTB.
