(As far as I know they don't consider prior certs/experience probably because they have no idea what they even are.)

2020年4月7日 · Many of the students in my JCAC (CTN A School) had 4 year degrees, myself included. We joined for the training and experience. Six years as a CTN combined with the clearance, training, and free certs, will get you much further than the same time working for a random IT department. Think of it as six years in the Navy to skip 15 years civilian.

2023年5月29日 · No. It's still a CTN for all intents and purposes but the Navy is starting to bolster its cyberspace mission so the name change is a way to distinguish that the rate is differentiating itself from the cryptologic community. Congress is currently considering new a new enlisted Cyber rate and Officer designation as well.

Take whatever education opportunities you have while in the Navy, get your certs through Navy Cool. You picked a great rate, just make sure you set yourself up for success along the way.

IT and CTN both get all the same certifications paid for, and IT is arguably a more versatile as civilian experience. CTN is a good job, but if you're willing to go all in dont neglect the IT rate.
