USS Coral Sea (CV/CVB/CVA-43), a Midway-class aircraft carrier, was the third ship of the United States Navy to be named for the Battle of the Coral Sea. She earned the affectionate nickname "Ageless Warrior" through her long career.

Commissioned as CVB 43, the CORAL SEA was redesignated as attack aircraft carrier CVA 43 on October 1, 1952, and multi-purpose aircraft carrier CV 43 on June 30, 1975. The USS CORAL SEA was decommissioned and stricken from the Navy list on April 30, 1990, after more than 42 years of service.

CV-43 began her final deployment of the 17-year association with CVW-15 15 February 1977, and brought it to a close 5 October. During that cruise- the only one she would make with F-4J Phantoms embarked - she visited Pusan, Korea, in addition to the more familiar ports of Yokosuka and Subic Bay during East and South China Seas operations.

USS Coral Sea sailed from Norfolk June 7, 1948 for a midshipmen cruise to the Mediterranean and Caribbean, and returned to Norfolk August 11. After an overhaul period, USS Coral Sea was again operating off the Virginia Capes.
