Summary:Configuration Register 29, also known as Mode Control, enables or disables a number of multifunction or accessory decoder features using bitswitches. CV29 controls a number of features on both Accessory and Multifunction Decoders. It does so with Bit Switches to activate features by setting a specified bit on or off.

Unravelling CV29
CV29 is probably one of the most useful, but also one of the most feared, CVs in a DCC locomotive decoder. It allows configuration of up to 8 parameters which contribute to the operation of the decoder and can bite if not set correctly.

First, let’s clarify that CV29 is same for all decoder manufacturers. It is part of the NMRA DCC decoder specification. Every CV is made up of a group of 8-bits. Think of a bit as a single-pole single-throw toggle switch, which has only two states. These states are either ON or OFF.
