Exhibition of speed (VC 23109 (c)) – accelerating or driving a vehicle at a dangerous speed, in order to show off or make an impression on other people. It can be charged on its own, as either a misdemeanor or an infraction.

23109. (a) A person shall not engage in a motor vehicle speed contest on a highway or in an offstreet parking facility. As used in this section, a motor vehicle speed contest includes a motor vehicle race against another vehicle, a clock, or other timing device.

Under California Vehicle Code 23109 (c) VC, an exhibition of speed is a traffic violation that can be charged when you accelerate to a dangerously high rate of speed, often done for amusement or to draw the attention of bystanders.
