Heck, a big reason Candyman targets Helen is BECAUSE she tries to convince his "congregation" that he's just imagination and thus he must punish the "unbeliever" for her transgression.

It is a fantastic movie. One of the last great horror movies, imo. Candyman is barely in the movie, but you feel his presence everywhere. It's like Anthony Hopkins in Silence in the Lambs. He was barely in that movie either, but it's arguably his most notably role. The fact Candyman is so memorable is credit to how good Tony Todd was in that role.

Candyman nails that specific dread perfectly and with some subtlety. Even with the horror element removed (the gore/kills), it's a really unique story with a dark side. I'm a music guy, so I always come back to Candyman just for that, but I'm surprised at how consistently the movie will give me goosebumps even after so many rewatches.
