Electric Power Steering (EPS) uses an electric motor to assist driver steering. Hardware and software are developed concurrently and work seamlessly together to connect the driver with the road – enabling advanced safety and performance along with precise, predictable feel of the road.

Electric power steering (EPS) is a key technology for highly automated driving. The Bosch EPS variants meet the requirements for small, mid-range, sports cars as well as light commercial vehicles.

The dual pinion EPS may be exposed to heat from the engine or mufler. On the other hand, vehicles equipped with EPS are also delivered to areas with an extremely cold climate. EPS must endure rapid temperature change and needs to guarantee the operation in a wide temperature range from 120°C to -40°C.

Maintaining constant communication and feedback based on the driver’s speed, torque, and other sensor data, the EPS increases or decreases power to help the driver steer based on real-time driving conditions.

In EPS, a sensor senses steering input from the driver and provides signals to the electronic control unit (ECU). In turn, the ECU changes the amount of steering assistance required and directs the electric motor to generate the required torque.
