CDCR reorganization means the department is switching to a regional leadership structure beginning Jan. 1, 2025. This way, leaders will be closer to the prisons they manage, making it easier to oversee day-to-day operations.

California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) provides the full spectrum of medical, dental, and mental health services – from health screenings to end-of-life care – to more than 120,000 adult inmates incarcerated in 35 prisons across the state.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), in partnership with the federal Plata Receiver, is responsible for health care services to all inmate patients. Mental Health and Dental services are provided by the CDCR’s Division of Health Care Services (DHCS) while medical care is provided by the federally appointed Receiver.
