CD15, the X hapten or Lewis X antigen, can be identified with the LeuM1 antibody. Originally noted as a monocyte/myeloid cell marker, it was recognized as a marker for the Reed-Sternberg cells of classical Hodgkin lymphoma.

In the clinical hematology-oncology setting, CD15 is an important marker for neoplastic Reed Sternberg cells, hence useful for the diagnosis of Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Using this same antibody to probe neural progenitor cells using FACS, we found substantial expression of this marker on their surface [14].

CD15 is a haemopoietic differentiation antigen expressed on most terminally differentiated myeloid cells including granulocytes, eosinophils, mast cells, monocytes/macrophages, and Langerhans’ cells. Haemopoietic progenitor cells and myeloblasts do not express CD15.
