The CELF Preschool–2 Record Form, page 1, summarizes Jennifer’s Core Language, index, and subtest scores. Her Core Language score of 63 (confidence interval of 56–70 at the 90% level) is in the very low developmental range and supports continued language therapy and learning disability services.

While the Preschool Language Scale-5 (PLS-5) and CELF Preschool-2 are both used to assess semantics, morphosyntax, pragmatics, and emerging literacy skills in young children, the tests provide different information about a child’s pattern of language strengths and weaknesses.

The Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals – Preschool – Second Edition (CELF-Preschool-2; Semel, Wiig, & Secord, 2004) is an individually-administered, norm-referenced instrument designed to assess aspects of language necessary for preschool children to transition to the classroom.

The CELF-P2 is norm-referenced for children from 3:0–6:11 years and yields two core subscales of receptive and expressive language. We administered the Word Structure, Expressive Vocabulary and Recalling Sentences Expressive subtests and the Sentence Structure, Concepts and Following Directions and Basic Concepts Receptive subtests.
