A Brief History of Ceres, Virginia Ceres Junior Class developed most of this material in 1961 Lying in the western portion of Bland County and in the eastern portion of Rich Valley is a small rural community, Ceres, bounded by Brushy Mountain to the North and Big Walkers to the South.

The organization has helped promote farming, family and community focus that God gave us as a people to steward. This year (2008) marks the 80th anniversary of the FFA. On June 21st we traveled to Ceres to attend a meeting of the Bland County Historical Society as they saluted all the efforts of Henry and the legacy he has left behind.

The former Ceres High School building has been maintained by the Ceres Ruritan Club since the elementary school closed in 1992. It is used for Ruritan activities and many community functions.

The establishment of the Methodist Churches in the Ceres Area will be described in the order we think they were established from documents made available at the Bland County Historical Society and in The History of Bland County.

The massacre of the Sluss family occurred at Sharon Springs in what was then Fincastle County (now Bland) near the present village of Ceres, Va., August 2, 1774, the year of the Indian uprising known as “Lord Dunmore’s War” and just two months prior to the famous battle at Point Pleasant.
